Andratx in Mallorca
Andratx is the name giving village of the municipality of Andratx in the south-west of Mallorca. The traditional village at the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains and home of the municipal administration (ajuntamento) is situated approx. 5 km inland from the harbour of Puerto Andratx. Across the outskirts of the town, Andratx fades into the valleys “Sa Coma fria” and “Sa Coma caliente”. In both valleys you will mostly find fincas, some of them offering great views to Puerto Andratx and the sea.
The centre of Andratx offers a nice market square with some basic restaurants and cafes. Every Wednesday, the village features one of the most well-known farmers’ markets on Mallorca on its new market square. It does not only offer fruits and vegetables from local farmers but also a lot of arts and crafts. Andratx does not only have a well-stocked supermarket but offers almost any kind of shop to cover your every day needs, too.
Further villages in the municipality of Andratx are San Telmo or Sant Elm (Majorcan) and S’Arraco. San Telmo is a small, very traditional fishing harbour, well-known for its excellent fish restaurants and the offshore island of Dragonera, a natural reserve. In a valley between Andratx and Sant Elm you will find the village of S’Arraco with many historic town houses and small fincas. Widely known is also the seaside resort of Camp de Mar with its beautiful beach and its golf course “Golf d’Andratx”.
The island’s capital, Palma de Mallorca can be reached by car within 20 minutes and the airport is approx. 30 minutes away.
